Welcome to the Macomb Literacy Partners Web site,
We appreciate your interest in our organization! Macomb Literacy Partners serves a crucial role in Macomb County by providing free tutoring services to those who need help improving their literacy skills. Since 1984, we have helped individuals learn to read.
Many of our students are learning English for the first time, coming from far reaches of the globe. These students have the challenge of learning a new language, while immersing themselves in a different culture. Other students have lived in Macomb County their entire lives, perhaps even graduated from high school, but always struggled with reading. Despite such challenges, our students come through our doors with a desire to learn and improve the quality of their lives.
In helping students learn to read, our tutors provide much more than reading assistance: they provide a lifeline. Imagine a parent’s pride upon completing his or her child’s medical forms for the first time. Consider the satisfaction of a student getting a promotion or raise because they put in extra time and effort reading and writing e-mails. These are the types of success stories our students share.
Such accomplishments are important - even life changing - but often understated. Too often we forget the fact that many of our own community members struggle to read. In Macomb County, as much as 23% of our residents have low literacy skills. Fortunately, by taking action we can solve the problem.
I hope you will join in our tradition of success. Perhaps you are interested in tutoring. Maybe you enjoy fundraising. Whatever talents you have, I encourage you to share them with us. To get involved, call our office at (586) 286-2750 or e-mail read@macombliteracy.org. Together we can help residents in Macomb County learn to read.
Sincerely,
Ted Bolak, Director
